PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change interpolation coefficients according to a sound ray data density. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic image area G by sector scan or convex scan is divided to two areas of an upper area G1 and a lower area G2, a pixel value Q (x, y) of ultrasonic image is calculated from sound ray data p (r,θ) by nonlinear interpolation in the lower area G1, the pixel value Q (x, y) of the ultrasonic image is calculated from the sound ray data p (r,θ) by linear interpolation in the lower area G2, the pixel value Q (x, y) of the ultrasonic image is calculated from the sound ray data p (r,θ) by border interpolation intermediate between the nonlinear interpolation and the linear interpolation in the border area G3 between the upper area G1 and the lower area G2, so that discontinuity in the border area G3 is made unremarkable.
