A paper leaves identification device comprising a paper money identificat ion sensor section (11) having one or more light emitting means for outputti ng first through n-th (n is an integer of 2 or above) light beams of differe nt wavelength and light receiving means for receiving the components of the light emitted from the light emitting means and reflected on and/or transmit ted through paper leaves, a section (15) performing emission control of the light emitting means, and a paper money judging section (16) for identifying the paper leaves using an optical signal received by the light receiving me ans wherein the emission control section (15) controls emission of the light emitting means such that the emission frequency of the first through n-th l ight beams is differentiated depending on information acquired from the pape r leaves.
