<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a carbon material from which a negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cell excellent in charging and discharging characteristics can be manufactured, to provide a negative electrode material for a secondary cell using the carbon material obtained by the above method, and to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cell. <P>SOLUTION: The carbon material is obtained by compounding phenols, formaldehydes, a catalyst, a metal compound and a pitch-base material and then carbonizing and shows the moisture absorptivity of not more than 1.0% after being kept at 40°C and 90% RH humidity for 7 days, and a density of 1.5 to 2.2 g/cm<SP>3</SP>, and contains the metal compound in an amount of 0.1 to 20.0%. The method for manufacturing the carbon material includes steps of: (a) preparing a monomer blend by using phenols, formaldehydes, a catalyst, a metal compound and a pitch-based material; and (b) carbonizing the monomer blend. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
