PURPOSE:To automatically control a shoe gap, by a method wherein a groove with an equal width having an inner profile and a gap, which pays consideration to elastic deformation and thermal expansion, are formed in a snail cum, and a cam lift is increased through movement in a direction in which a shoe makes contact with a drum. CONSTITUTION:A groove 2d with an equal width, which is engaged with a pin 4 and has an inner profile 2c serving as an profile, is formed in a snail cum 2, and a gap between the groove 2d and the pin 4 is set to a value which pays consideration to resilient deformation and thermal expansion of a brake drum. A position allowing the pin 4 to make contact with an outer profile 2e of the groove 2d is set so that the lift of the snail cam 2 is increased through rotation of a brake shoe 3 in a direction in which the brake shoe makes contact with a brake drum 5. This constitution enables a shoe gaps to be regulated to a regular value, and permits simplification of structure and reduction of a cost.
