PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the precision of dust removal correction for image data from being degraded even in the case where the situation of dust deposition changes after dust correction data are acquired. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: an image pickup element in which a plurality of pixels each for performing optic/electric conversion on a subject image are arrayed in a two-dimensional manner; a foreign material detection section for detecting information about the position of a foreign material deposited on an optical member disposed on a photographing optical axis in front of the image pickup element; a change detection section for detecting a change in the situation of the foreign material deposited on the optical member based on a picked-up image obtained by performing optic/electric conversion on the subject image by means of the image pickup element and the information about the position of the foreign material being stored in the storage section; and an updating section for updating the information about the position of the foreign material being stored in the storage section based on the information about the change in the deposition situation of the foreign material detected by the change detection section.
