PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing copolyester fibers which are excellent in functional properties such as hygroscopicity, water absorbability and quick dryness and little cause the deterioration of the functional properties (especially hygroscopicity) with the exposure of solar light. SOLUTION: This method for producing the copolyester fibers having the characteristics is characterized by treating fibers comprising a copolyester containing a polyalkylene terephthalate as a main constituting component and copolymerized with a polyether component in the side chains of the polyester and further copolymerized with a specific metal organic sulfonate in the polyester, with a water-soluble salt of a metal selected from nickel, manganese and barium to at least partially replace the metal of the metal sulfonate in the copolymer by nickel, manganese and barium.
