PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical encoder facilitating assembly adjustment. SOLUTION: An embodiment of the optical encoder 1 includes: a light emitting element 10 emitting light; a mobile slit plate 30 including a plurality of slits S1 substantially arranged equidistantly and movable rotationally or linearly; a multi-focal lens 20 receiving the light from the light emitting element 10 to divide it into first divided light and second divided light and emitting the first divided light and the second divided light toward a rotational path or a linear path of the slit S1 in the movable slit plate 30; a first light reception element 41 generating a first electric signal according to the first divided light passing through the movable slit plate 30; and a second light reception element 42 generating a second electric signal which has a phase different from that of the first electric signal according to the second divided light passing through the movable slit plate 30.
