PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent clay thin film achieving all of heat resistance, water resistance, flexibility, transparency and flame retardancy, and to provide a film substrate suitable for an organic electroluminescent (EL) display. SOLUTION: The clay thin film comprises a flake-like heat-resistant material and a flame-retardant fluid substance. The flake-like heat-resistant material is preferably one or more kinds of mica, vermiculite, montmorillonite, iron montmorillonite, beidellite, saponite, hectorite, stevensite, nontronite, magadiite, ilerite, kanemite, smectite and layered titanic acid.
