PURPOSE:To improve chipping resistance, etc., by preliminarily coating a water paint which forms a coated film having a specific static glass transition temp. by a dip coating method to the chassis parts of an automobile body prior to coating of an electrodeposition paint to said body. CONSTITUTION:The water paint which forms the coated film having 0--75 deg.C static glass transition temp. is preliminarily coated by the dip coating method to the chassis parts of the automobile body prior to coating of the electrodeposition paint to said body. The aq. compsn. of the above-mentioned water paint consists essentially of an aq. vehicle and water. A viscosity imparting agent, org. solvent, coloring pigment, filler, and corrosion preventive pigment may be adequately incorporated at need into said compsn. The aq. vehicle is preferably a thermoplastic resin having the static glass transition temp. in the above- mentioned range and includes, for example, a modified polyolefin resin, etc. As a result, the chipping resistance, etc., are remarkably improved and the corrosion resistance, water resistance, etc., are correspondingly improved.
