摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic image display device capable of eliminating deterioration in stereoscopic display characteristics even when a trace of a light beam between a lens and a two-dimensional display device becomes long. <P>SOLUTION: The stereoscopic image display device has a flat panel display device 1 having a display surface where a plurality of pixels are arrayed in matrix, and a plurality of lenses which are arranged side by side in front of a display surface of the flat panel display device and into which a uniaxial birefringent substance is inserted, and is equipped with light beam control devices 2, 3, and 4 controlling light beams from pixels, and a polarizer 15 provided between the flat panel display device and light beam control devices and putting polarizing directions of the light beams uniform, the birefringent substance having a maximum main axis of a refractive index in parallel to ridge lines of the plurality of lenses and the maximum main axis direction tilted to a direction opposed to an observer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p>
