PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of illumination control without receiving an effect of a fine DC component of an installation detection circuit. SOLUTION: A DC power supplied from a DC power supply circuit is converted into an AC power by an inverter circuit 15, and a discharge lamp 17 is lighted by an AC power from the inverter circuit 15. A control part 22 starts control of the inverter circuit 15 when installation of the discharge lamp 17 is detected by an installation detection circuit 21, and switches off the installation detection circuit 21 by switching off an installation detection switch 18 when the inverter circuit 15 is operated.
