PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video decoder capable of setting an optical video as a screen to be displayed when a decoder stops, by a simple procedure. SOLUTION: When a video decoding part 132 operates, still picture data of one optional frame among video signals of a plurality of frames obtained by the video image decoding part 132 is registered in a display screen storage memory 1341 of a still picture data generating part 134, and when the video decoding part 132 stops, the still picture data is read from the display screen storage memory 1341 and transmitted through a switcher 132.
