摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for forming a servo tracking pattern on a magnetic disk by thermomagnetic transfer even when recording density is improved. SOLUTION: Eight kinds of burst signal patterns respectively deviated by 1/8 pitch in a radial direction are formed previously on a photomask 20. The photomask 20 and a medium 1 are positioned with spacings. A magnetic field is applied in a direction of about 45°with respect to a track by permanent magnets 21a, 21b, 21c and 21d and a coil 22. An energy-beam generator 24 irradiates an energy-beam irradiation area A1 between the permanent magnets 21a and 21b with an energy beam. This makes it possible to conduct thermomagnetic transfer of burst signal patterns having components in both of the radial direction and a track direction to the reproduction signal. By positioning a read head on the basis of the burst signals, the size of the servo tracking pattern can be reduced, and positioning of a head can be controlled even when the read head becomes not larger than 0.1μm.
