PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new organic compound having good characteristics as a color filter dye, an organic EL device material, an organic solar cell material, an organic nonlinear optical material, an organic transistor material, various kinds of chromic dyes, a biomedical material, etc., and to provide a pigment composition comprising the compound. SOLUTION: The organic compound is represented by the formula [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>12</SP>represent each independently a hydrogen atom or a substituent].
