PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake device in a winding traction machine capable of completely preventing any action in which a spring enters between a flange and a ratchet claw when assembling the spring and the ratchet claw, preventing occurrence of any defective assembly, and correctly and easily performing the assembly work even in a narrow fitting position. SOLUTION: The brake device in the winding traction machine comprises brake disks 10a, 10b, a ratchet 11 for backstop, a claw 12 to be engaged with the ratchet for backstop, and a spring 13 for urging the claw in the engaging direction with the ratchet for backstop. The claw 12 is fitted to a shaft, a flange 17 is fitted to the spring side of a claw shaft 15 implanted in a frame, and a surrounding part 12a for surrounding the outer circumference of the flange is provided on an end face of the claw 12.
