PURPOSE:To prevent reaction gas from mixing as well as to reduce the extent of dangerousness on explosion and combustion, by installing a gas passageway to a reaction gas passageway, at both ends of an electrode, and making an inert gas in a pressure vessel flow into the passageway. CONSTITUTION:At both ends of an electrode 5 constituting a unit cell, there are provided with a reaction gas passageway toward the reaction gas outlet side from one corner interconnectable to an inlet gas 13 in a pressure vessel 12 and another gas passageway and, after electrode lamination, inert gas pressure in the vessel 12 is raised up. Therefore, the inert gas in the vessel 12 passes through the passageway 11 and flows in direction of an arrow (a) from an end corner of the electrode 5. In this case, a reaction gas leakage portion in arrows (b) and (c) is driven by the inert gas flowing in the passageway 11 and forcedly discharged to the outside. With this constitution, one spot retention of the reaction gas leakage portion is eliminated so that the reaction gas is prevented from mixing, thus explosion and combustion can be kept back. |
