A suture coated with a composition comprising: a) a growth factor, b) a b iodegradable, non-polymeric, non-water soluble, liquid carrier material (suc h as SAIB), c) a growth factor stabilizer, d) a solvent in which both the bi odegradable, non-polymeric, non-water soluble, liquid carrier material and t he protein stabilizer are miscible, e) a volatile alcohol (such as ethanol).
