PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress temperature rise in an image forming apparatus of a non-contact development system. SOLUTION: When images are not formed, a photoreceptor drum and a developing roller are made to contact with each other. Thus, the heat is dissipated from the developing roller and the temperature rising in the apparatus is suppressed. In particular, by rotating both the drum and roller during their being in contact with each other, higher efficiency in heat dissipation can be obtained. This realizes an image forming apparatus designed so as to prevent an excessive temperature rise in the apparatus and hence toner fusion and other troubles, even at high-speed printing in which heat generation is excessive.
