PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve chipping resistance of a cutting blade, and to promote reduction of cutting resistance in lapping. SOLUTION: This cutting insert includes two rectangular faces forming like a rectangular plate and pointing in the direction of thickness, two first side surfaces 3 along the long sides of the rectangular face 2 and two second side surfaces 4 along the short sides, wherein a cutting face is formed on the first side surfaces 3, a main cutting blade 5 is formed on an intersecting ridge line part of the first side surfaces of the rectangular face 2, and a sub-cutting blade 6 connected to one end P of the main cutting blade 5 is formed on the intersecting ridge line parts of the first and second side surfaces 3, 4, respectively. The main cutting blade 5 is provided with a first cutting blade part 5A gradually projected in the extending direction of the short side as it goes from one end P toward the other end Q seen from the opposite side to the rectangular face 2, a second cutting blade part 5B gradually set back, and a third cutting blade part 5C again gradually projected to reach the other end Q, and one end P and the other end Q are disposed at equal positions in the extending direction of the short side.
