PURPOSE:To miniaturize the following moving device and to reduce the number of mirrors by providing on a work head the moving device to move a condensing optical device in right angles direction for the end face of both strips, in the device to weld the preceding and succeeding strips. CONSTITUTION:A condensing optical device, e.g., the moving device 28 of a condensing lens 15 is provided on a work head 27. The preceding and succeeding strips 12, 13 are opposed at their end parts which are held by clamp devices 3, 2 and the end parts of both strips are cut by the shear device 4 movable in a right angles direction B with the moving direction of both strips between the devices, 2, 3. The device 4 and back bar device 5 retreat and advance respectively in B direction, in succession, the cut faces of both strips are abutted by moving the device 2 to the device 3 side and a weld line 29 is formed. A lens 15 is then moved in B direction dy a moving device 28. Since the laser beam 16 whose light path is changed by a mirror 14 is thus condensed at the center of a lens 15 the laser beam 16 can be condensed on the weld line 29. |
