A surface-modified carbon nanotube-based material is provided to have improved compatibility with other material, and to be suitable for use in electronic equipment or electronic members. A method for preparing a surface-modified carbon nanotube-based material includes a step of performing a combination of ultraviolet irradiation to a carbon nanotube-based material and supply of a silicon-containing compound to the carbon nanotube-based material. The ultraviolet ray is a vacuum ultraviolet ray. The silicon-containing compound is diluted with an inert material which does not modify the surface of the carbon nanotube-based material even upon the ultraviolet irradiation. The surface-modified carbon nanotube-based material has a surface modified by any one of a silicon-containing group and a silicon-containing compound. |
