<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous material comprising a carbon nanofiber aggregate in which the adhesion among carbon nanofibers is satisfactory and having a low bulk density, and to provide its production method. <P>SOLUTION: The porous composite is one that comprises a network-forming inorganic fiber aggregate in which the inorganic fibers are bound together through a ceramic substance, wherein the inorganic fibers are carbon nanofibers, and the ceramic substance is a carbide-type ceramic substance. For example, the composite material is produced by impregnating a molding comprising an aggregate of carbon nanofibers with a solution of a polymeric precursor convertible into a carbide-type ceramic, removing the solvent of the solution from the impregnated molding, and firing the solvent-freed molding. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
