PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize an element of a refractive index sensor and a refractive index measuring apparatus, to reduce the number of components, and to reduce the cost, in the refractive index sensor employing photonic crystal and the refractive index measuring apparatus having the refractive index sensor. SOLUTION: In the refractive index sensor, a photonic crystal nano laser array is formed on the photonic crystal using a plurality of resonators for laser-oscillating excitation lights with different oscillation wavelength, each resonator shifts the oscillation wavelength according to variation of refractive index, and the photonic crystal nano laser array can introduce a medium to be measured to at least each resonator. The refractive index measuring apparatus comprises the refractive index sensor, an imaging means for picking up an image of a photonic crystal nano laser array including a near visual field image of the resonator, and a measuring section for determining the image variation of the photonic crystal nano laser array imaged by the imaging device and measuring the refractive index of the medium to be measured from this image variation.
