PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a stem for an optical semiconductor device which can prolong the lifetime of a die (metal mold), and forms a desired device packaging portion in an erect attitude without nonconformities. SOLUTION: A metal member 1 and the die 50 are prepared, wherein the die is constituted by a die body 51 with a recessed portion 52 provided at least at a central portion, and a die split portion 53 which is separated from the die body 51, and is arranged in contact with a part of the recessed portion 52; and the die has a structure, in which a height of an upper face of the die body 51 is different from that of the die split portion 53. The metal member 1 is arranged on the die 50, then the metal member 1 is pressed by a punch 56 and pushed the metal member 1 into a space portion B of the recessed portion 52 to form, by which a stem member of a structure is obtained such that the device packaging portion 2 is provided erect on an eyelet 1.
