PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capacity coupling drive type liquid crystal display capable of eliminating or reducing a display defect (tool unevenness) due to a local deviation in luminance level resulting from thermocompression bonding operation during mounting of a driving IC chip and a display defect (fixed-point unevenness) due to a deviation in luminance level (gap unevenness) due to a deviation in thickness of a liquid crystal layer or a deviation in luminance level caused at another specified place. SOLUTION: Luminance correction areas 101 and 102 are provided where fixed-point unevenness occurs by increasing the area of an auxiliary capacity (Cst) formation portion by a predetermined quantity. Namely, luminance is suppressed by locally varying a bias voltage (superposed voltage) during capacity coupling driving to eliminate luminance unevenness. At this time, the quantity of the area increase is so set as to cancel an about 1/2 of the deviation in luminance due to the fixed-point unevenness. Further, the quantity of the area increase is set so as to linearly decrease from a maximum correction place 103 toward edges of the luminance correction areas 101 and 102.
