<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a lithographic printing plate which is excellent in both stain resistance and plate wear resistance and used for an original plate of the lithographic printing plate. <P>SOLUTION: The substrate for the lithographic printing plate has, on an aluminum rolled sheet, a hydrophilic layer which contains a reaction product of a hydrophilic polymer having a reactive group at one end and of a chemical bonding agent which has three or more reactive groups among at least which one reactive group is capable of forming a chemical bond in reaction with the reactive group of the hydrophilic polymer and among which at least two reactive groups are capable of forming chemical bonds in reaction with each other.
