PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming system in which convenience in use is improved by preventing a setting item change without permission.

SOLUTION: In an image forming system 1 wherein a personal computer 2 and a printer 4 are connected to each other, the printer 4 includes: a remaining quantity detecting means 30 for detecting the remaining quantity of printing materials; an operation means 9 for performing a setting input; a lock means 55 for locking the setting input of a setting item in the operation means 9; a cancellation item receiving means 46 for receiving from the personal computer 2 a cancellation item to cancel a lock by the lock means 55 when the remaining quantity of the printing materials detected by the remaining quantity detecting means 30 becomes equal to or smaller than a predetermined quantity; and a release means 55 for releasing from the lock the cancellation item that is received when the remaining quantity of printing materials becomes smaller than or equal to the predetermined quantity. The personal computer 2 includes: a display control means 71 for displaying a cancellation item setting screen on a display means 68; and a transmission means 62 for transmitting the cancellation item set on the cancellation item setting picture through a communication means 3 to an image forming apparatus 2.
