<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically form a gradation look-up table (LUT) which determines the tone value of a partition pixel in a partitioned control printing process. <P>SOLUTION: This exposure head controlling apparatus is equipped with the gradation value LUT, an exposure data forming section, and an exposure controlling section. In this case, the gradation value LUT corresponds to pixel tone data which indicates the tone of a pixel, with region tone data which is used for respectively exposing a plurality of regions for which each pixel is partitioned in the subsidiary scanning direction, and indicates the tone of the region. The exposure data forming section forms the region tone data which indicates the tone of each region based on the pixel tone data indicating the tone of each pixel by referring to the gradation value LUT. The exposure controlling section exposes the plurality of pixels by exposing the plurality of regions by controlling a plurality of light emitting elements based on the region tone data. In the exposure head controlling apparatus, the gradation value LUT is formed based on a partition number by which the pixel is partitioned into the plurality of regions, and a maximum tone number of the pixel.
