PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image retrieval device and an image retrieval method, for suitably retrieving an image in terms of color information. SOLUTION: With respect to an object image input from an object image input part 11 and a comparative image stored in a comparative image database 12, correlation data is acquired by preparing an object chromaticity image and a comparative chromaticity image in which the chromaticity distributions in the images are converted into histograms on a chromaticity diagram, and performing optical correlation operation by JTC method in an optical correlation processor 30 using a retrieval image in which the object chromaticity image and the comparative chromaticity image are adjacently arranged. In an image retrieval processing part 15, a similarity of the images is determined from the acquired correlation data, to retrieve the image. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
