METHOD FOR SURFACE-TREATING CARBON MATERIAL AND CARBON MATERIAL PREPARED THEREBY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for lowering the surface energy of a carbon material.

SOLUTION: The surface treatment of a carbon material is performed by coating the carbon material with a fullerene derivative having exohedrally atomic groups containing an 8-30C alkyl or fluoroalkyl group. A simple method for coating the fullerene derivative with the carbon material desirably comprises bringing a solution of the fullerene derivative into contact with the carbon material and thereafter drying the carbon material. The solvent used is a solvent such as toluene.
