<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To completely eliminate pinching of the hand by a movable sash dropping onto the same. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a braking device for the movable sash, which is formed of an engaging arm member 25, a spring member 31, and a receiving member Y. The engaging arm member 25 is axially supported via a horizontal shaft 26 on a side edge of the movable sash 3 vertically moving via a hanging member 7, and has engaging portions 25b, 25c protruding in a window jamb direction, at upper and lower edges of a base portion 25a. The spring member 31 has a central portion thereof wound on the horizontal shaft 26, and one end thereof press-contacted to the side edge while the other end thereof press-contacted to the engaging arm member, respectively, and therefore always urging the engaging arm member in an engaging direction.
