PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of data for one scanning of a recording head by forming print data such that the number of nozzles effective to recording in the plurality of nozzles is reduced when the size of data for the one scanning exceeds a predetermined amount, and to print a photo image by providing a memory having a capacity suitable for printing texts and drawings. SOLUTION: In this method for processing print data, an effective nozzle channel number M of nozzles to be used for recording as effective nozzles in a nozzle channel number N of nozzles on the recording head is determined, data compression is carried out by extracting data for one scanning. When there is not the expansion of the data, it is judged whether or not the size of the compressed data exceeds a target data size. When it does not exceed the target data size, the compressed data is transmitted as the print data. When it exceeds the target data size, the formed print data is discarded to reduce the effective nozzle channel number M. The processing of forming the print data by reducing the effective nozzle channel number M is repeated until the size of the print data to be transmitted becomes not greater than the target data size.
