PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fully automatically fix a bearing metal even if a falling direction of a connecting rod varies. SOLUTION: A large end 3 of the connecting rod 1 falls around an axial line of a piston pin in various directions on either side with respect to a crank case 19. A metal fixing device 20 is moved above the connecting rod 1, a posture sensor 24 detects the side on which the large end 3 is located, the device 20 is moved to the side, the device is further lowered to support the large end 3 by a clamp arm 25, and then the device 20 is located immediately above the connecting rod 1 to raise the rod 1 straight.
