PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cloth presser of a low cost and a simple configuration by providing one double-acting air cylinder for cloth pressing by a presser foot. SOLUTION: Prior to sewing start, when a working cloth is set on the upper side of a feed plate and a presser foot switch is operated when the presser foot is at a standby position, a first solenoid valve 15 and a second solenoid valve 16 are controlled to be switched to a supply state. In pressurizing air cylinders 11 and 12, advancing drive force acting on pistons 11b and 12b from head side operation chambers 11c and 12c becomes slightly larger than withdrawing drive force acting on the pistons 11b and 12b from rod side operation chambers 11d and 12d, rods 11a and 12a are gradually advanced, and the presser foot is gradually lowered. In the middle of the lowering of the presser foot in such a manner, the front end of a leaf spring member is abutted to the spring receiving part of the presser foot, and the presser foot is held at a position immediately before pressurization by the spring force of the leaf spring member.
