PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which maintains high transfer efficiency even when adopting a developer of small particle size and an image carrier of thin film and reduces scattering and re-transfer. SOLUTION: A potential absolute value of a photoreceptor drum is controlled to be 200 V or less after development and before transfer, is controlled to be 100 V or less after transfer unit passage of sheet material and the outside diameter of the photoreceptor drum is set to be 20 to 40 mm. The developer includes a binder resin and particles of colorant, and further includes inorganic fine particles on the surface of particles of colorant, of which the average particle size is 30 to 300 nm and the content of the particle of particle size of 600 nm or more or the content of the number of aggregations is 1% or less. The weight average particle size of the developer is 3.0 to 7.0μm; the circularity is 0.940 to 0.975 and the degree of aggregation is 50 to 70%. Among the distance L (mm) between a contact nip center of an intermediate transfer body and an image carrier and a contact nip center of a primary transfer means and the intermediate transfer body, the degree G (%) of aggregation and the outer diameter D (mm) of the photoreceptor drum, the following relation holds: 0.3<L≤(0.1×G-4.5)×D/30.
