PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quantify impact intensity exceeding a detection limit of an acceleration sensor. SOLUTION: This method for detecting an impact force applied to the acceleration sensor by using the acceleration sensor 10 for detecting a component determined by subtracting a gravitational acceleration component from a motion acceleration component, has the characteristics wherein: a dropping time Th which is the length of the first period wherein an output signal from the acceleration sensor shows the dropping state of the acceleration sensor, and an impact time Tg which is the length of the second period, namely, a successive period from the first period; the output signal is larger than the case in the dropping state, are measured; and the maximum acceleration Gmax which is the maximum value of the acceleration applied to the acceleration sensor in the second period is calculated by operation determined beforehand based on the dropping time Th and the impact time Tg.
