PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling device capable of carrying out the start and end of defrosting operation at accurate timing by correctly detecting a frosted state. SOLUTION: The cooling device comprises a cooler 3 equipped with heat transfer fins 4, and at least one optical frost formation sensor 7 optically detecting the amount of frost sticking to the fins 4. The optical frost formation sensors 7 are arranged to detect the sticking amount of frost on the tip surfaces 4A of the fins 4 located on the air blowoff port side, the air suction port side or on both sides of the air blowoff port side and air suction port side.
