The unit has a distance-regulated speed control system providing a free driving-acceleration value for reaching a predetermined speed during free driving and a succession driving-acceleration value for reaching and/or adhering a predetermined distance to a target object during succession driving. A succession driving-display is activated for a period of succession driving and designed as a haptic succession driving-display e.g. form elements (F1-F6) that is arranged in a gripping area of a steering wheel-rim (LK). An independent claim is also included for a method of displaying a succession driving during distance-regulated speed control of a motor vehicle.
