A method for preparing a soil improver is provided to produce the soil improver capable of neutralizing acidified soil and increasing air permeability and water-retaining power of soil. A method for preparing a soil improver using expanded vermiculite includes the steps of: thermally expanding vermiculite, and breaking the expanded vermiculite into particles having a diameter of 4-7 mm to process the expanded vermiculite particles; removing impurities from chlorite, and naturally drying the chlorite to remove water moisture contained in the skin layer; heating the naturally dried chlorite in a furnace to remove all moisture contained in the mineral; grinding the dried chlorite into powder, and passing the powder through a 150-mesh sieve to obtain fine powder; firing a washed shell or oyster shell at 1,200-1,300 °C, grinding the fired shell into powder, and passing the powder into a 150-mesh sieve to obtain calcium carbonate powder; mixing 94-96wt% of the expanded vermiculite powder, 3-5wt% of the chlorite powder, 1.5-2.5wt% of sulfur powder, and 0.1-0.3wt% of the calcium carbonate powder; and packaging the mixture.
