PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for coating paper, excellent in coating operability of a high speed flowability (high shear viscosity) of the composition for coating the paper, also excellent in printing aptitude such as surface strength, white paper gloss, printing gloss, etc., and further capable of obtaining the coated paper having the above excellent printing aptitude over a wide printing speed range, and to provide the coated paper. SOLUTION: This composition for coating the paper containing a pigment and binder is provided by containing the pigment containing fine particle kaolin or fine particle calcium carbonate having≥95% particle size distribution of≤2μm, containing latex in the binder, and containing 4-10 pts.mass copolymer contained in the latex and having 50-100 nm number-average particle diameter, based on 100 pts.mass pigment.
