PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material feeder capable of detecting a sheet material before being pulled into the feeder and stopping the delivery thereof without breaking the sheet material bound by a staple or a clip. SOLUTION: A sheet material detection means for detecting the passage of a plurality of sheet materials is provided in the direction orthogonal to the sheet material feeding direction in a directly vicinity of the downstream side in the feeding direction from an abutted position of a separation roller and a retard roller, and in a vicinity of both ends of the abutted separation roller in the width direction. A means for detecting that the height of the sheet materials exceeds the predetermined value is provided on the upstream side of the feeding direction of a pickup roller. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
