A heat accumulator, through the storage mass (I) of which heat transfer fluid (II) flows in one direction during charging and in the opposite direction when the heat is utilized, has a (preferably rectangular) flow channel (together with (I) and surface insulation) in 2-dimensionally cylindrically coiled (preferably spiral) form. (II) is supplied and abstracted at the center of the coil. An independent claim is included for a variant of the heat accumulator, in which (a) the flow channel (together with (I) and insulation) is in 3-dimensionally wound (preferably spherical layer) form or (b) (II) flows radially through spherical layers (preferably having the same volume) filled with (I). In either case (II) is supplied and abstracted at the center point of the sphere.
