A dishwasher and a control method thereof are provided to reduce water usage and obtain high cleaning efficiency by changing an area ratio of upper, middle, and lower spraying nozzles and maximizing the spraying amount of the middle spraying nozzle. A dishwasher comprises a body(10), and a door(12). The body has a washing tub(20). The washing tub includes upper and lower dish baskets(22a,22b), racks(24a,24b) sliding the upper and lower dish baskets, and upper, middle, and lower spraying nozzles(26c) which are arranged at upper and lower sides of the upper and lower dish baskets. The upper and middle spraying nozzles are connected with a sump(42) by a first supply pipe(28a). The lower spraying nozzle is connected with the sump by a second supply pipe(28b). The water supplied to the upper and middle spraying nozzles, and the water supplied to the lower spraying nozzle are sprayed independently by operation of the upper, middle, and lower spraying nozzles. An area ratio of spraying holes of the upper, middle, and lower spraying nozzles is 0.5:1.5:1 so that the spraying amount of the middle spraying nozzle is greatest.
