<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a defective condition that when a test pattern composed of liquid droplets is formed on a plain paper, an accurate impact position can not be detected by generating running of the test pattern. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises a pattern forming means 501 for forming, on a water-repellent member 700, an adjusting pattern 400 constituted with a plurality of independent liquid droplets jetted from a recording head 24, a pattern reading sensor 401 composed of a light emitting element 402 for emitting light to the adjusting pattern 400 and a light receiving element 403 for receiving a regular reflection light from the adjusting pattern 400, an impact position deviation amount calculating means 503 for calculating the amount of deviation of the impact position of the liquid droplets based on the result of detection of the pattern reading sensor 400, and a means 504 for calculating the amount of correction of liquid droplets jet timing from the amount of deviation of the liquid droplets impact position.
