PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a spacer for optical fiber cable, with which the spacer for optical fiber capable of preventing increase in transmission loss of the optical fiber to be stored is manufactured with high productivity, and to provide the optical fiber cable. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the spacer for optical fiber cable includes a guide groove formation step of forming a helical guide groove toward the longitudinal direction on the circumferential surface of a plastic rod and a storage groove formation step of forming a storage groove for storing an optical fiber tape core wire on the circumferential surface of the plastic rod, by pressing a cutting knife with its cross section larger than a cross section of the guide groove into the guide groove and running the plastic rod in the longitudinal direction to cut the internal surface of the guide groove, wherein a knife part of the cutting knife is supported by a support part with the outer shape formed so that the internal surface of the storage groove does not cross the trajectory drawn toward the longitudinal direction and the total thickness of the knife part and the support part is≥2 mm.
