PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an open deck type cylinder block capable of suppressing deformation of a cylinder arranged inside of a water jacket, in a part on the side of a cylinder head, and besides ensuring sufficient coolability of the cylinder. SOLUTION: This open deck type cylinder block is configured as follows. The water jacket 20 is provided with a shallow bottom portion 21 and a deep bottom portion 22. The shallow bottom portion 21 is arranged in a part comparatively far from a head bolt hole 17. Meanwhile, the deep bottom portion 22 is arranged in a part comparatively near to the head bolt hole 17. A lightening part 18 with a block outer wall extended toward the side of a cylinder center, is provided to a part on the side of a crankcase in a cylinder shaft direction of the shallow bottom portion 21.
