<p>An optical device which compensates for temperature drift by compensating for deviation of refractive index resulting from generation of stress regardless of placement position on a substrate for forming an optical waveguide comprises a substrate (2) having electrooptic effect, a plurality of optical waveguides (3b-1, 3b-2) formed in parallel on the substrate (2), and a polarization inversion region (6) formed on a part of the substrate (2) and having inverted polarization characteristics in the substrate (2). Outline of a boundary for other region (7) in the polarization inversion region (6) where the polarization characteristics are not inverted is arranged such that the value of strain received by the plurality of optical waveguides (3b-1, 3b-2) and accumulated along the coordinate of light propagation direction is substantially equalized among the plurality of optical waveguides (3b-1, 3b-2).</p> |
