<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide step ascending/descending assist equipment rich in convenience by reducing a user's labor. <P>SOLUTION: This step ascending/descending assist equipment comprises: a step member 30 which constitutes a staircase along with upper and lower step surfaces 12 and 11 of walking steps; a slope member 40 which is inclined from the upper step surface 12 of the walking step to the lower step surface 13 thereof; electric motors 32 and 42 for moving the members 30 and 40 between a storage position and an ascent/descent assisting position; a smart key K which is carried by the user, in which personal identification information for identifying the user is stored, and which enables the transmission of a user signal including at least the personal identification information; and outdoor-side and indoor-side communication instruments 21 and 53 capable of receiving the user signal transmitted from the smart key K. The step member 30 and the slope member 40 can be automatically moved between the ascent/descent assisting position or the storage position, depending on the content of the information included in the received user signal.
