PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screw compressor from which toxic fume does not leak. SOLUTION: This screw compressor 1 comprises a pair of screw rotors 2, 3 contained in a rotor chamber 4 rotatably around their respective horizontal shafts, engaged with each other, and rotated to compress a gas; a motor rotor 5 and a motor stator 6 contained in a motor chamber 7 adjacent to the intake side of the screw rotors 2, 3 in the rotor chamber 4. The shaft 9 of one of the screw rotors 2, 3 extends into the motor chamber 7, and rotatingly driven by the motor rotor 5. A mechanical seal 17 separating the rotor chamber 4 from the motor chamber 7 is mounted on the shaft 9 extending into the motor chamber 7. The motor chamber 7 is filled with a cooling oil 21 so that at least a part of the shaft 9 extending into the motor chamber 7 is immersed in the cooling oil. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
