<p><PICT:0948213/C3/1> A device for guiding metal wire or strip between two inclined rectilinear paths comprises an airtight box 1 containing a rotatable pulley 34, a tube extension 22 forming an inlet guide leading the wire 27 into the peripheral groove in the pulley, an exit guide 43 leading the wire from the pulley, and guide plates 42 located on either side of the pulley and extending between the inlet and exit guides. The inlet guide 22 is connected via flanges 24 to a furnace 26 and the exit opening 28 united to a frusto-conical junction piece 29 is joined via flanges 30, 31 to the entrance 32 of another furnace. The peripheral groove in pulley 34 is arranged tangentially to the axes of 22 and 32 and the guide plates 42 are connected to the guide bracket 43 one flange of which is applied against the end wall of the box 1 and the other flange which is bevelled extends to adjacent the pulley rim. An aperture 8 in the box is closed by a removable cover 10 and several of the devices may be arranged side by side. In one application steel wire may be directed from the box into an aluminium coating bath, a reducing atmosphere being maintained in the box.</p> |
